Unfortunately I didn't get the Internship, but despite feeling a bit gutted at first I still managed to find a few positives from the day:

.Despite travelling to London many times with friends, I'd never done it on my own before so I now feel much more confident travelling in and out of the city. 

.I got a small glimpse of a fashion environment in the actual environment 

.I spoke to a woman at the head of her own company who praised me on my photography work, which has encouraged me to continue down that path

. I got a nice day out on my own and did some shopping after

I really tried not to get too disheartened when hearing I didn't get the internship. It's the first interview  I've ever not succeeded in, but Fashion is a fiercely competitive industry and I'm aware that knock backs are going to be common. Sometimes we just need to find the positives in a situation, learn from it and see it as an experience. After a rejection it's important not to quit, you just have to pick yourself up, brush yourself up and start all over again. And make sure you look damn good while doing it.

I had a look around some of my favourite makeup brands to see how they're working with this trend and i found some really lovely shades. My favourite is probably the Mac lipstick as its pretty dark with a reddish tinge, which is something i feel works well with my pale skin tone. This trend really is so versatile, there are loads of different shades available from light to dark which means its a colour that can suit everyone. For daytime, a lighter more natural shade would be more wearable, and in nighttime the darker shades would look really effective.

On day two we didn't wake up till about half 11 as we'd been up so late the night before. We got up and dressed pretty quickly and went for breakfast/lunch in a really cool American themed diner on the seafront about 5 minutes walk from our hotel. It was so cool in there, with Elvis Presley playing and waitresses dressed in 50's outfits. I had a sort of Mexican bean and feta wrap with chips which was very lovely. After eating we headed down to the seafront because we'd seen a tarot reader and i was curious to know what it was all about. I've never been to a physic before and I'm not even sure if i believe in it but i was interested to hear what she had to say. I won't bore you with the details but lets just say she was weirdly accurate (and if there are any dark haired guys with an accent that fancy 'changing my life' please come forward). We then took a walk up to the hughstreet for a bit of shopping where I purchased some gorgeous over the knee boots and some Mac makeup (I'll include them in some posts soon) We went to The Lanes, where we enjoyed looking in some of the little shops and went to ChoccyWoccyDooDah where I bought some green tea milk chocolate, odd but so nice!! We then back to the hotel for a few hours to relax with our tea and chocolate (so wild) before going back out again for dinner. After that we went back to the hotel and started getting ready for our second night, which was almost as good as the first!!

Here's a little collection of some of the 'Royal' dresses. They range from Judi Dench's costume for 'Elizabeth' (which was literally encrusted with pearls and diamonds and weighed 30 pounds) to a version of the Queen's coronation dressed which was re-made for the jubilee and shown in Harrods window. 

Sorry about the dodgy screenshot! The two pictures on the left are from the stage show 'Miss Havisham Presents' which isn't yet on the West End. The middle four are from five famous films, The Theory of Everything, Billy Elliot, The Iron Lady and My week with Marilyn. The pictures on the right i recognised straight away as the costumes from Wicked the musical. The costume designer had aimed to merge all the tailoring ideas and confuse them to create these costumes and that was certainly evident when seeing them in real life. I couldn't believe how heavy they were! 

These are costumes from British TV shows such as The Good Life and Doctor Who. I was most excited when seeing the Batman and Robin costumes which were featured in one of the most iconic episodes of Only Fools and Horses which one of my favourite shows. 

Here are some costumes from historic films such as The Red Shoes, The Boyfriend, and Dracula. The centre one is costumes from Downton Abbey (one of which hasn't even been featured in the show yet) This was interesting for me as my dream job is to work on shows like Downton Abbey! 

Here are some costumes you might recognise from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the Young Victoria. 

After the exhibition we grabbed lunch in a cute fish and chip restaurant called Poppies right on the corner of Brick Lane. It was decorated in a really cute, retro fashion with a 40's/50's style interior, and the walls covered in unique posters, pictures and memorabilia.

Couldn't resist a quick seflie in my new glasses, i absolutely love them. They go with anything and for only £5 you can't really go wrong! I snapped them up as soon as a i saw them in Spitalfields market. 

So there you go! Quite a long blog post but i had a really nice day and if you're in London at any point over the next few weeks i'd definitely recommend seeing the exhibition, it's still up there for a while yet. Plus it's right in the middle of a great location which is brilliant for grabbing some shopping and food afterwards.

This dramatic collection echoed the setting- a darkened theatre holding a watery like catwalk, upon which models floated down draped in jacquard and rustic appliqué dresses. The overall feel was haunting, dark, eery, the clothes less conventionally 'pretty' than his previous outings. Black collars and high, frilly necklines provided a victorian edge while plunging or off the shoulder necklines injected a contemporary yet fashionably vintage feel.

PETER PILOTTO 

Peter Pilotto has been a favourite of mine for years now, and i always wait for their new collections to hit the catwalk in excited anticipation. Set in a car park, fabrication took the limelight with calf length dresses, shirts,  asymmetric skirts and tops made in the most luxurious of materials ranging from chantilly lace and satin to smocked cotton knits. The palette was fresh and bright; sky blues, pastel lemons and crisp whites contrasted with the bold, almost sporty feel provided by thick straps, elasticated sleeves and primary coloured zips. The traditionally feminine elements of the collection-the dresses, the shapes, the patterns- are balanced out with just the right about of structure and edge, something that makes this brand so distinctive. 

BURBERRY 

Remember the hype surrounding the personalised ponchos debuted on the Burberry catwalk a couple of seasons ago?  Pretty much the moment they were first seen on the runway, bloggers, models, celebrities and the like were tripping over themselves to either sign up to the waiting list to receive the real thing, or bag themselves a lookalike from high street retailers. Well, this season its the personalised nylon backpack. Model after model breezed down the runway with a backpack hanging off their shoulders in various shades of black, navy and khaki, each one held together with a tan leather buckle, and adorned with the models initials and, of course, the much fawned-over Burberry logo. The desired feel of this collection was young, carefree, and the clothes definitely portrayed that spirit. There was slippery silk slip dresses held up by barely-there spaghetti straps, a look that could take you easily from summer to winter with the help of a jumper or coat thrown over the top. And if it's coats you're after, you would definitely find one here. There was coats of every variety; lace trenches with a sporty mesh, black pea coats, duffle coats, officer jackets with regimental buttons as well as a tough leather biker jacket thrown over a simple yet beautiful black mini dress. After watching last seasons show i thought it would be hard to beat, but Christopher Bailey has outdone himself yet again.

Jonathon Saunders is well known in the fashion world for his expressive use of colours, and this particular show was inspired by a makeup palette with bright, bold colours parred down with nude and blush tones. Saunders cited our multi culture as inspiration for his oriental flavoured kimono jackets, pyjama trousers, fringed jackets and wrap dresses; Indian, African, and Chinese cultures all influenced the show. I love this collection, the whole thing has an essence of ease to it and it all looks beautifully crafted.

TOPSHOP UNIQUE

Ever the picture of femininity and glamour, this season's Temperly London show was packed with delicate summer dresses and pretty embroided skirts, tops and shorts. There was crisp white cotton shirts with appliqué tropical flowers and palm leaves, all topped off with Havana-like Panama hats. The tailoring was easy and slightly masculine, with relaxed linen culottes and pretty waistcoats worn over bare arms. This collection felt light and breezy, and i loved every single piece in it. 

MARY KATRATNZOU

For me this is one of MK's most wearable collections. The designer wanted the collection to be 'enchanting and beautiful' it absolutely was. The show opened with a smattering of sparkly dresses, adorned all over with sequins, beads, and shimmery tones, all in a variety of signature 3D prints, an art that Katrantzou has down to a T. Dresses in jewel tones followed, the cuts sharp and light, with peplum shape finishes and bloom-like shapes. There's not a single piece from this collection that i don't like, every single thing is individually beautiful. 

PAUL SMITH 

Paul Smith has been one of my favourite designers since i first did a project on him in my first year of college. He always manages to bring a contemporary, modern edge to his collection whilst still maintaining that quintessential britishness that he does so brilliantly. His style doesn't adhere to what we perceive as being ' in fashion'-he introduces the trends with a authenticity that can't be beaten in my opinion. This collection was very cool and very chic, with panelled colour block dresses clashing with animal prints, dip died coats, and silky cigarette trousers. The signature stripe made an appearance, but this time ran lazily over loose fitting dresses in summery pastel shades. No, Paul Smith doesn't exactly break any rules with his collections, but he makes clothes that real girls like you and me would want to wear, and for me, that kind of simplicity is beautiful.
