DESIGNER TRACKING: PREPPY
As with my chosen seventies trend, i chose to do preppy for one of my photoshoots as this trend was clearly visible at both London and New York fashion week, and it's the kind of style that would suit a lot of people so i think it's inevitable that the high street will latch on to this trend before too long. Designers showed the theme in a variety of ways, and here are the ones i think used it most prominently.
MARC JACOBS. NEW YORK
The trend was seen here in cropped boxy jackets, structured bum bags, cigarette trousers, oversized boyfriend coats and school-girl berets. The splashes of colour used are kept to a mainly primary palette of blue and red.
NARCISO RODRIGUEZ.NEW YORK
Although the designer kept to a very monochrome theme, the trend was visible through the use of boyish tailoring with structured blazers, pencil skirts and polo necks.
RAG AND BONE. NEW YORK
Rag and Bone gave the preppy trend a mature, sophisticated update by keeping to a fairly neutral pallette with splashes of dark reds. Boxy leather jackets, cropped peg leg trousers and chunky brogues completed the school girl-grown up look.
ORLA KIELY. LONDON
Orla Kiely nailed the trend for me and really took it back to it's traditional roots. The collection was feminine and charming, and had loads of texture which bought a warmth to it.
DAKS.LONDON
Daks took the preppy trend right the way back to the 60's in this collection but it was visible in the splashes of red and the cigarette trousers seen throughout.
DKNY. NEW YORK
For me, the biggest pioneer of the trend has to go to DKNY. There's not a print in sight, the collection is made up purely from primary colours of blues, reds and purples and oversized jackets were seen thrown over almost every outfit. V-neck jumpers, polo necks, school girl skirts and cigarette trousers sealed the deal on the trend. For my photoshoot, this collection will be the most significant form of inspiration for me as i love the colours that are used and the use of mixing and matching of separate garments means i can be much more creative and free in my styling.
