FINAL TREND AND STYLING BOARDS
Here are my final boards for my Trend and Styling module at university.
For my first trend i decided to portray a 70's look, as over the past few months I've noticed how much the trend has taken off, and is predicted to stick around for upcoming seasons. Over the past few months I've blogged about the trend occurring in fashion, beauty, materials, bridal wear and more. After creating a trend board based on the research i carried out, i produced a photoshoot to convey the 70's style for A/W15. I chose a colour palette of rich and dark tones of mustard, maroon and blue to add a more wintery feel to the boho look which is generally thought to be more summer-based. I deliberately made the look quite texture heavy with a knitted tank top, wool cape and tights, and a denim skirt. I wanted a look that would attract the ages of about 17-27 which I think this outfit achieves, as the colours are quite dark and mature but the length of the skirt and the mix of proportions that the cape with the skirt gives adds a hint of innocence. When shooting the pictures, I asked my model to keep a fairly blank expression as the only message i wanted to project was coming from the styling. In editing, i opted for a fairly muted light rather than a vibrant one as i wanted the images to look laid back and relaxed, a vibe which I think the 70's brings. Overall, i'm happy with the outcome.
For my second trend prediction i played around with the idea of going back to school, a preppy look with a mature modern edge. Although not as heavily visible as the 70's trend, this look is definitely making a comeback, and after doing some research i discovered the trend could be inspired by films and it was visible during New York and London fashion week, street style, footwear, accessories, and high street fashion. In terms of colour I opted for a primary colour palette of dark blue, black and white and added a contrast with a lime green coat. I like how the two colours work with each other, and the stripes of the dress add another preppy feel to the outfit. In terms of accessories, i chose a black leather backpack to reference the school theme and chose converse as for me they remind me of school playing fields and sports. I played around with the proportions by using a tight fitting knitted dress and then threw an over-sized boyfriend coat over the top. Again, i chose to get my model to have a blank expression as i wanted the attention to be on the clothes. I decided to shoot the photographs outside, as after doing them in the studio i decided that it wasn't right kind of feel, as i wanted a fresh, youthful look that i felt was better portrayed outdoors, in the open air. I also like how the green of the trees matches with the colours I used in the outfit.
