IDEAL HOME SHOW: TECHNOLOGY

By 15:12

Another area of the show that interested me was the technology section, demonstrating appliances for 'The Ideal Smart Home' . I am by no means a techno-expert so all these amazing inventions always leave me saying 'oh my god, how do they do that?!' We went to a talk where the newest technology inventions were demonstrated and here are the ones i understood enough to blog about!

1. The Top Brewer

This device combines a tap and an app, that grinds fresh beans and foams milk to make espresso, cappachinos and flat whites. The machine itself is fitted under the counter, meaning that you can get your coffee straight from your kitchen tap without seeing all of the mechanical stuff. You can choose what drink you want (you can also get cold drinks like sparkling water and milk) on your mobile device which will then connect to the tap and make your drink easily and effortlessly. You'd have to be pretty well off to be able to buy this though, and wouldn't get much change out of £6000!

2. Kolibree

The Kolibree is a toothbrush that teaches children how to brush their teeth properly, as well as the rest of the family. It connects to an app on your iPad or iPhone or tablet, to tell you how well your brushing. Parents can be downstairs on the app while their child brushes their teeth, keeping tabs on where in the mouth the child is brushing and how long for, ensuring that their teeth are well looked after between visits to the dentist.

3. Withings Aura

The Withings Aura is the friendliest alarm clock in the world. There's a sleep sensor that slips under your mattress, and a device that sits on your bedside table which gets you off to sleep and gently wakes you up in the morning. It studies you as you sleep, noting how long you sleep for, and how much sleep you need. It then uses light and sound to gently and gradually wake you up in the morning when you should be woken up, rather than being jumped awake by an iPhone alarm.

4. The Drop Scale

This kitchen scale connects to a recipe app on your iPad. As well as measuring ingredients, it walks you easily through every stage of the recipe, making amendments whenever you make a mistake. For example, if you add too much flour to a recipe, the drop scale app will re-calculate the whole recipe to compensate for your mistake so you don't have to worry!

I think all of these devices are amazing, but the one i'd really love to get my hands on is the Withings Aura, as sleep is very important to me.
