NAILED IT: TOP TRENDS FOR YOUR NAILS S/S15
I've only just, over the past year or so, become more interested in doing my nails and I've come to realise that nail trends play a vital role in the fashion and beauty world. While browsing on WGSN, I found a report on upcoming nail trends that really interested me, I thought I'd share them with you so your nails could be ready for summer!
GET MESSY
This purposely untidy nail designs are starting to grow in popularity, and it's no wonder as the application is quick and easy, and there are no strict rules you have to stick to. You could opt for an extremely messy look like Rodarte, by painting your nail one colour and then removing everything apart from the colour around the cuticle. Rebecca Minkoff opted for smudges, and created a three tone nail by using three colours and a cocktail stick to smudge the two colours when wet. Smudges, uneven lines, chips and residue are all acceptable for this trend, which is good news for me as my nails always seem to end up like that. Anything goes, the messier the better!
THE NEGATIVE SPACE MANICURE
This season, demi manicures or negative space manicures are big news. The options are endless, with only one rule- an area of each nail must be left free of colour. Popular designs include coloured cuticles or tips with the middle of the nail left bare, or free hand graphic designs and spots of colour applied across the nail. I love how you can be as free as you like with this trend, it lends itself to creativity and i can't wait to try it! My favourites are the Creatures of Comfort and Lovely by Lucy designs.
MINIMAL
For me, minimal nails are the best sort, and this season nail art is veering away from the complex and detailed in favour of a clean, almost naked look with just one tiny detail. Nails are generally left bare, or painted matte nude or white. The detail comes in the form of one single line painted across the nail or tiny 3d balls in black or silver, which are stuck to only a few nails on each hand. Less is more with this trend.
70' STARLET
The 70's trend has been storming the fashion world recently, and it's not stopping at nails. Burnt oranges and citrus yellows add a fun, retro feel to nails this Spring. There are a range of finishes from glossy to metallic, with glitter infused polishes being a firm favourite. Colours vary from light peaches to dark persimmon, as seen at Jenny Packham, even reddish hues maintain an orange undertone. This trend is all about a bright energetic vibe, so go as bold as possible with your colours.
PRIMARY COLOURS
The most classic of the bunch, primary colours such as red blue and yellow have made a comeback for Spring, with nails following suit. Pigments are rich and bright, and the colour is applied in either one block or used to create indicate rubix cube designs (they look super cool but pigs will fly before i can achieve it) You can also opt for a multi-tonal look, OPI's Pineapples Have Feelings Too from it's Hawaii Spring collection is a great one to use as it infuses a primary yellow base with flecks of red, green and blue for an easy all in one look.
AQUA-BABE
An important hue this year is an intense, bright and summery aqua. The shades vary from turquoise to green, blue and teal. A slightly complex edge is given by adding a metallic or glitter finish to simply coloured nails. I've always been a fan of this colour, and am definitely adding the Essie polish in 'Garden Variety' to my shopping list.
