LONDON FASHION WEEK DAY ONE

By 14:57

After days of trawling through the 5 days of London Fashion week I've finally picked a selection of my favourite designers from each day of the event. For me, London is the best place for fashion. Theres always creative new talent emerging from every corner, and the style mixes together so many different cultures but there's still that thread of authentic Britishness running through it.

BORA AKSU

Bora Aksu is one of my favourite designers, and one that i always look forward to watching during London fashion week. He specialises in bringing craft to his clothing along with the touch of romance that he's known for. The collection began punky in navy with pencil skirt and leather look ensembles and then wandered in to the classic Aksu look of opulent lace with a gothic edge. The show ended with feminine pinks and lilacs with textured leaves appliquéd onto gowns.

PAUL COSTELLOE

Paul Costelloe was never really a designer I'd paid much attention to, but after seeing this sweet, kooky collection I'll definitely remember to in the future. There was a definite nod to the 80's in terms of materials with velvet, tweed and mohair being the predominant textures among a collection of ruffles, shift dresses, off the shoulder dresses and bell sleeves. My favourites are the emerald green smock dresses, along with the pink boucle boyfriend coat.

JEAN-PIERRE BRAGANZA

Jean-Pierre Braganza described his ideal Braganza woman as "ahead of her time, this woman is a modern incarnation of an exacting film noir vixen and wartime heroin". Aviation was the theme with warplane graphics on tunics, sky high heels and airborne-ready jackets. The overall collection was engineered and industrial but with a distinctly glamorous edge.

Eudon Choi

Jackets were the real winners in this collection, with geometric shapes inspired by the Japanese architectural movement. I love how these shapes were combined with seventies floral wallpaper patterns in colours like teal and pink. The designer wanted the collection to feel 'fresh and new' and he definitely achieved that.

DAKS

Possibly my favourite of day one, Daks presented a collection inspired by 60's bikers, with models clad in leather jackets, mod style mini dresses and biker caps strutting down the runway. A few softer moments came with tulip printed jackets and skirts paired with leather trousers and jackets to add a feminine edge.

That's it for my summary of Day 1!
