NEW YORK FASHION WEEK: PART TWO

By 01:55

Here's the second part of my favourite collections from NYFW. Enjoy!

DKNY

There was definitely a serious theme of 'back to school cool' occurring over and over again in the DKNY show, with the collection full of oversized boyfriend coats, v-neck jumpers and tailored cigarette trousers. Print was minimal with the majority of the clothing displaying bold bright colour blocking. The overall collection was fun yet with a slightly awkward teenager feel throughout.

Donna Karan

Donna Karan's collection was titled 'power and poetry' and the clothing definitely reflected this with creations that could see you go from boss in the boardroom to Belle of the ballroom (or bar). Donna Karan is known for dressing strong, powerful, modern day women and with tightly belted tailored jackets, grey midi skirts, brocade padded coats and tuxedo jackets, she definitely lives up to her reputation. My favourite aspect of the collection was the whispers of romance with origami gowns and sheer inserts in otherwise corporate skirts, which added a subtle contrast.

Rag & Bone

I absolutely loved the Rag&Bone collection. Minimal and sheek with hints of sexiness brought by  silky slips and tough-girl biker jackets, this collection for me displays the ideal city girl, strong, streetwise and stylish. The colours packed a punch in bright oranges, musty red wines, and neutral creams and greys mixed with splashes of strong yellow. Shoes were equal to the clothes with clunky creepers and chunky ankle boots, while a touch of femininity was added in the form of strappy monochrome, nude and white courts.

Tommy Hilfiger

Tommy Hilfiger went back to his roots of American sportswear in celebration of 30 years of the brand. The venue was done up to resemble an American football pitch, and clearly, no expense was spared. The collection was youthful, with models sporting (pardon the pun) silky baseball jackets, varsity sweatshirts and pleated mini skirts. Some of the creations were slightly more subtle, with sheer insert dresses and an ivory shearling coat with white leather trousers. A true Hilfiger hit.

Oscar de la Renta

After the passing of Oscar de la Renta, all eyes were on Peter Copping as he took the reigns on the brand. With a front row boasting the likes of Beyonce, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian, the pressure was definitely on, and this collection didn't disappoint. Copping sensitively stuck to what de la Renta is known for; feminine skirts, cocktail dresses and most famously, stunning gowns that once again took the limelight. Well done Peter Copping, I'm sure Oscar would be proud.
