THE ACTIVE TREND
One trend that has become very evident to me throughout January and February is fitness. It's annually on the top of every New Years Resolutions list, but this year the fashion industry has really latched on to it in a big way, creating designs that not only serve their purpose to fitness but are stylish as well; which is something that hasn't really been done before.
British designer Stella Mcartney has teamed up with global sports brand Adidas to create a cutting edge collection that covers a wide range of disciplines such as yoga, running, biking, athletics, swimming, tennis, and even surfing. There are a few pieces that are a little too out there for me, but I managed to find a few that struck a good balance between sporty and stylish. The collection is pretty expensive, with prices ranging from £20 to around £400, but if you're big into sports it would definitely be an investment worth making.
Global trainer company Nike have released a women's sportswear collection inspired by tennis player Serena Williams to celebrate her 19th championship. The collection boasts a variety of sports vests, skirts, shorts, leggings, trainers and sports bras in modern citrus and pastel colours. I really love this collection, and i especially like how you can design your own trainers (mine are above-I've really got a thing for lime green right now) Prices range from £30-£125, which i think is a fair price if you want good quality active wear.
My all time favourite online retailer Missguided have recently released their first ever active wear range, following much anticipation. They describe the collection as 'fashion meets function' with a selection of slashed back sports bras, cut out hoodies and printed leggings. I for one can't wait to try out a few of the pieces, and with a price range of just £5 to £20, it would be criminal not to!
H&M have sold active wear for a long time, but in my opinion they've really upped their game recently and starting pushing the fitness collection much more. They offer different pieces for specific areas in fitness such as outdoor sports, yoga, athletics, and running. This for me is the middle ground between Nike and Missguided, offering highly fashionable, yet supportive fitness clothes at affordable prices ranging from £9.99 to £39.99.
I'm no Jessica Ennis, but i do enjoy exercise, especially Pilate's, yoga, and running. I think it's so important to incorporate it into your life style, and i try to fit it in at least 5 days a week, even if it's just for 20 minutes. I really hope this trend sticks around, as it promotes a healthy life as well as a stylish one.
