LONDON FASHION WEEK WINDOW DISPLAYS

By 07:35

I love window displays, i find them so interesting to look at and i always used to love dressing the windows when i worked in a boutique, so when i came across this report on window displays during London Fashion week i just had to blog about it.

SELFRIDGES

Selfridges hold an annual project with an aim to seek out and showcase the best young talent in the UK. This year however, the project came with a twist as the department store are backing older artists who have retired, and renamed the initiative Bright Old things. Each retired artist has been given a window display, with each one dedicated to the individuals particular craft.

HARVEY NICHOLS

Harvey Nichols window displays are inspired by art galleries and showcase sculptures. Usually, the department stores can be crammed and busy but these ones have been striped back, and the product placing and lighting are similar to that of an art gallery. I love the organic, minimal approach to this window.

HARRODS

Even though London Fashion week is showcasing creations meant for Autumn/Winter, Harrods window was delicately spring like, with oversized sculptural flowers of all different shapes and sizes dotted around the display. I love how the lighting gives the window a moon kissed, magical aura.

Carrying on the lighting theme, Harrods beauty brands such as Nars, Laura Mercier and La Prairie showcase their products along side video screens showing the looks with Hollywood style backstage lights framing the windows.

LIBERTYS

As i've said previously, the 70's has been a massive trend during the fashion weeks and Libertys pay homage to the era of the year in this tropical themed window. Lighting is a massive element in this window with suspended plant lamps used to illuminate the display. These give off a feel of being in a greenhouse which i think is really clever and sets off the 70's trend brilliantly.

BROWNS

Alice Archer was recently commissioned to create a collection for the store, which was showcased in this flower-power like window display for the store during London Fashion week. There's a obvious cartoon theme here too, with 2D clouds, flowers and sundays scattered around the display.

TOPSHOP

Topshop stuck to what they know with another digital themed window display to support its social media campaign for Fashion Week. One window encourages customers to get involved on social media, while the other one used a digital film to support Newgen emerging talent.

I love all of these displays, especially the first three, but my favourite has to be Seflridges, as the concept behind it is authentic and original, and goes much further than just trying to sell Selfridges products.
